Is God Really Faithful to Me?

Looking back over the last few years, I can see God’s faithfulness woven throughout my days. In each opportunity, circumstance, decision, emptiness, surprise, and experience, He was there.


I remember telling a friend, when my previous marriage was crumbling, that I wasn’t sure that God was faithful to me. Because God hadn’t answered my prayers the way I asked, I assumed that He just wasn’t concerned about me. That moment in time is seared into my brain. I didn’t realize that He was faithful all along, but because of my lack of faith and obedience, He walked beside me, carried me, and loved me through the years.


I wanted a loving, faithful, and trustworthy relationship with my first husband, but that was never going to happen. It wasn’t until I took the steps to walk away that God began to give me the desires of my heart. Now, please hear me, I'm not saying that God wants us to walk away from our marriages. I believe the opposite. I was faithful to my marriage for 44 years! God isn't in favor of divorce.


The bottom line is that I didn’t have faith. I stayed in the safe lane. It was way too scary to step into another way of life and trust God that I would be okay. I didn’t have faith or trust that God would take care of me.


Trust in God is the key to life.

I need to keep my focus on Him.

I need to trust my gut when the Holy Spirit is saying, "No," and walk away.

I need to be obedient and live life by following His Word.

I need to know that I am loved and am strong in Him when I feel weak.

I need to trust that He has everything under control.

I need to let go.


What I’ve learned is that God’s promise of faithfulness is true. Others may fail us, but He will never fail us. He cannot fail. God’s promises are eternal, unchangeable, and incomparable.


We need to believe and obey. Sometimes that means staying when we want to go. At other times, it means taking a step back. But it always means trusting Him at every moment and watching Him work.


And why would this amazing God do this for us? Because He loves you and me. He is able and wise. And He wants us to have an amazing, abundant life with Him.


The past few years have been a fast-moving picture of what God can do in someone’s life. His work blows me away

. I’ve met and married a man who loves me, with all of my mess. And I’m still watching Him work in the lives of my kids and grandkids. God isn’t finished.


Life isn’t pretty or easy. It brings us pain, hurt, trauma, and sorrow, but it also brings great joy as we see new opportunities, experiences, joys, and evidence of His work.


God is faithful and true. The enemy will try to tempt us to doubt and lead us into sin, but remember that choosing lies and self-satisfaction often leads to severe consequences. Choosing trust and obedience leads to blessings.


He is faithful, true, and able to do more than we can ever dream. God keeps His promises.


Ephesians 3:20-21 (NIV) -  Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
