Drop Your Nets!

My passion for shopping, decorating, and planning trips can sometimes sweep me away for hours. I can get so caught up in watching a favorite TV show that I forget to listen to Jesus, who is gently calling me to follow him today.

Matthew 4:19-20 (NIV) “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.

When Jesus invited Peter, Andrew, James, and John to follow him, they immediately dropped their nets and joined him. His invitation is still open to us today—full of hope and love.

Whether it’s your very first invitation or just a friendly “hey, let’s catch up,” Jesus is calling you. If you’ve never followed him, it’s a wonderful moment to drop your nets and go! Remember, he welcomes everyone, regardless of your past or doubts. If you’ve been sidetracked or tangled in other things, his invitation is a fresh start for us today.

He wants us to fish for people—no, not for dating! He’s asking us to cast our lines and invite others to meet Jesus. Share the good news of how he has changed your life with your neighbor, your kid’s soccer team, or your coworker.

If you’re feeling tangled in relationships, work, struggles, or busyness, just let go of the nets and run to him. He knows we’re messy and imperfect, yet he still chooses to use us to make a difference in the world.

So, what’s holding you back from following Jesus today?

Is your job, wealth, sin, or busy schedule keeping you from him?

Drop your nets—take that step towards Jesus! Get to know him truly—dive into his Word, pray earnestly, and find community that lifts you up.

Let’s drop our nets together, spend time with Jesus, and go fishing for lives that need his love!
