Gratitude Doesn't Require a Perfect Life

Give thanks to the Lord, because he is good.    His faithful love continues forever. Psalm 107:1 (NIRV)

Giving thanks isn’t about having everything you want. It’s about remembering that God is your anchor, even when you feel out of control. Maybe you don’t have everything you want, or circumstances have changed in your life.

Psalm 107 reminds us of the many ways God cares for us. He provides food, water, shelter, sunshine, friendship, and safety. He heals us when we’re sick, welcomes us back when we’ve strayed, encourages us when we need it, and never leaves us alone.

We don’t have to feel thankful before we give thanks. We can begin with something small: Thank You that I woke up today. Thank You that I’m not alone. Thank You that Your love has not left me.

That’s what this verse offers—not just a feeling, but a foundation. When circumstances are tough, emotions shift, or clarity fades, God’s goodness and love remain.

Lord, thank You for Your goodness. When I forget, please remind me. When I doubt, steady me. Your love doesn’t change with my circumstances, and today I choose to rest in that truth. Help me notice Your enduring kindness—not only in blessings, but also in Your presence with me through everything. Amen.
