What is Your Purpose in Life?

(Excerpt from "25 Days of Christmas" - Day 4 - Purpose)

Luke 1:14-17 (NIV) “He will be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even before he is born. He will bring back many of the people of Israel to the Lord their God. And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the parents to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous—to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

The angel who appeared to Zechariah described John's character and purpose. He said that John will be an easy child to raise, a joy and delight, and he will be great in God’s eyes. He will bring many back to God and turn disobedient hearts to righteousness.

That is an amazing description of a child, and a beautiful picture of a child of God.

I've often thought about how others might describe me. Maybe it's because I'm getting older! What will people say about my life? Do I bring joy and delight to God’s eyes? Or do I fall short and disappoint? I’m sure you've wondered the same thing, too.

Our purpose on this earth is to reflect His glory to others. We are here to worship God, know Him, and share the Gospel with others. We can only do that if we know Jesus as our Savior and live obediently to His Word.

Imagine how wonderful it would be this Christmas if we all followed our purpose! By showing the world the love of the God who created us and sharing His love story with everyone we meet, we would be giving the most meaningful gift of all.

Today’s Question: Are you living out your purpose and sharing the Gospel with others?

Ephesians 1:11-12 (MSG) It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone.
